Start-Up Brand Busy Beauty Demonstrates the Importance of the Pitch

Scargo Hill Capital’s Andy Moser just came back from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia’s 2nd Annual Collegiate Next Great Consumer Brands Competition. Andy joined a panel of judges that awarded the winning team $25,000 and an all-expenses paid trip to New York to attend the Next Great Consumer Brands Conference on May 3.

For the second year in a row the winning team came from Babson College, a testament to the Butler Launch Pad at Babson where entrepreneurs receive outstanding education and support. Jamie Steenbakkers and Michael Leahy of Busy Beauty impressed both the judging panel and the live audience with their innovative initial product and clear vision for the company – delivered with a very professional and polished presentation.

Jamie and Michael (pictured with Moser)  demonstrated a clear understanding of what it takes to succeed in the world of consumer products, and their ability to instill confidence in the judges that they could execute on their well-thought-out plan carried the day. Aspects of their pitch that stood out and that every entrepreneur should understand included:

A clear go-to-market strategy in a growing product category

Identifiable retail opportunities

A well-thought-out product line expansion (they’re a company, not a product)

Exceptional sourcing, marketing and packaging

Strong investment criteria

Understanding of their market opportunity

The Scargo Hill team will be keeping an eye on Busy Beauty and wish them good luck at the Next Great Consumer Brands Conference in NY.
